"In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I’ve been turning over in my mind ever since.
“Whenever you feel like criticizing any one,” he told me, “just remember
that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve
had.”

Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald (September 24, 1896 – December 21, 1940) was an
American writer of novels and short stories, whose works have been seen as
evocative of the Jazz Age, a term he himself allegedly coined. He is regarded
as one of the greatest twentieth century writers. Fitzgerald was of the
self-styled "Lost Generation," Americans born in the 1890s who came of age
during World War I. He finished four novels, left a fifth unfinished, and wrote
dozens of short stories that treat themes of youth, despair, and age.
